The Fandom High Times, Volume 5, Sixth Edition

Dear Reader,
I hope you still have some candy leftover from Halloween. If you've already finished all of it, then wow! I hope the sugar crash wasn't that bad.
Personally, my favorite is those peanut butter cups, and this year I was really happy to find that they now offer them in dark chocolate. I managed to stock up quite a few of those and will try to ration them until next Halloween.
Have a good week and I look forward to hearing from you!

Cooking Made Easy
By: Hoshi Sato
Fall is a great time for hot soups, and this one is a classic that's very easy to prepare.
French Onion Soup
* 4 large yellow onions, cut in large dice
* 1/2 stick unsalted butter
* 1 tbsp sherry vinegar
* 1/4 cup dry sherry wine
* 2 sprigs fresh thyme
* 1/2 tsp salt
* fresh ground black pepper to taste
* 1 bay leaf
* 3 cups high-quality beef broth
* 3 cups high-quality chicken broth
* 1 cup water
* For the topping:
* toasted French bread
* 8 oz shredded Gruyere cheese, or other Swiss cheese
In a large soup pot, melt the butter over med-low heat. Add the onions and salt; slowly cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden-brown - about 30 minutes.
Add the vinegar and sherry; cook for 5 minutes, and then add the remaining ingredients. Simmer on low for one hour. Taste and adjust seasoning. Ladle into heatproof bowls, or crocks, and top with a piece of toasted bread (cut to fit top of bowl).
Cover with the cheese, and place under a preheated broiler until the cheese melts and begins to brown. Serve hot.

The Tarot Journey for Beginners
by: Eleanor Robinson

Pure, exalted and gracious influence enters the matter. Hence, change, alternation, increase and decrease, fluctuation. There is, however, a liability to be led away by enthusiasm; one may become "moon-struck" unless careful balance is maintained. The mysterious, fluctuating energies of the Moon exemplify the High Priestess. Everything about rhythm, change and movement is emphasized. The cards around her will reflect this as instability.
The High Priestess represents the feminine inner intuition. She is a woman who chooses to go her own way; she does not follow the crowds. She symbolises womanhood in general, as the Magician card symbolized manhood.
The High Priestess shows that you can navigate your way through life with few clues.
The book within her hand represents the Greater Law, the Secret Law and the second sense of the Word. She keeps the book turned away from us, to show that some things are implied and some spoken. Her gown is simple and the mantle suggests light - a shimmering radiance. She is the Queen of the borrowed light, but this is the light of all.
She is the Moon, nourished by the milk of the Supernal Mother.
In a manner, she is also the Supernal Mother herself - that is to say, she is the bright reflection. It is in this sense of reflection that she represents the co-habiting glory, that of both above and below. The Supernal Understanding reflects the emanations that are beneath. Some view her as the Spiritual Bride of the just man, and when he reads the Law she gives the Divine meaning. There are some respects in which this card is the highest and holiest of the Greater Arcana.
The High Priestess is associated with the Moon, despite there being a Major Arcana of the same name. This card reflects the lunar phases, so expect a lot of change and fluctuation in the situation.
The High Priestess symbolizes constancy, fidelity, repose, stability, but also dumbness, laziness, resistance, endurance as well as passive opposition. It rules everything in connection with art and the artistic abilities, and with wealth.
Meanings
Secrets, science, wisdom, knowledge, education, mystery, fluctuation. The future as yet unrevealed.
The woman who interests the Querent, if male; the Querent herself, if female; silence, tenacity; mystery, wisdom, science.
Reversed Card meanings
Passion, moral or physical ardour, conceit, superficial knowledge, ignorance.
