THE FANDOM HIGHTIMES: SUMMER NEWSLETTER EDITION - FIFTH ISSUE!
PERSPECTIVES ON A NEW SCHOOL YEAR
by Alanna Trebond
As the summer draws to a close, new students pour into Fandom’s not so crowded hall ways. As varied as Fandom’s usual population, the new students include two more not-twins and a ton more people with the same name, causing even more massive brain explosions. "I love this place!" New student Carmela Rodriguez, Junior, happily proclaims even after hearing about all of Fandom’s oddities. Hopefully, other new students echo Ms. Rodriguez’s comment and will still feel that way in a month. But the new students aren’t the only ones new to the classroom, everyone from summer sessions who is staying with us will be finding out just how unusual Fandom classes can get.
Already looking to the next semester, summer student Alec, Junior, has an interesting concern. "Do we get the day off if something invades us during class hours?" Hopefully, we won’t be finding out the answer to this question next term. But when zombies, snow monsters, and other such things attacked during the weekend, I don’t recall getting a day off from school. You can get a day off if you get knocked unconscious though. (Editor’s note: The Fandom High Times does not endorse knocking yourself out in order to get out of going to class.) Old students voice similar concerns based on past experiences. "New term?" D'anna Biers, Senior, scoffs a little. "Alright. I hope it will be Amazon, mummy, snow monster, hush monster, frog, liquidy dragon, and zombie free. Unless it's a zombie band member from Caritas, of course." I think we can all support that.
But the ending of the summer means also saying good-bye to a few classmates and friends. Many a tear was shed this week as Anakin Skywalker, Veronica Mars, Piper Halliwell left and Xander Harris, Callisto, Chloe Sullivan and Susan Ivanova prepared to leave Fandom. Class of 2006 graduated senior leaves us with this parting gem: “I'll miss being here. Take care of each other. Also, Shirtless Day *is* a school rule. Don't let anybody tell you otherwise.” I’ll vouch for that. Have a good, and shirtless, semester everyone!
ACTING IS LIFE FOR DAISY ADAIR
By Angela Chase
If you need to be reminded to seize every moment, chat with Fandom High's acting teacher, Daisy Adair. "Live every day like it's your last, because you never know when it will be. But that's all I've got to tell people," she said.
Adair was assigned to Fandom a few months ago by her managers at Happy Time Temporary services and is not sure how long she'll be in town. She is a professional actress at home in Seattle, and once appeared on what she calls "a rather irritating reality show." She says she enjoys the interesting variety of people and creativity of her students in Fandom, but notes that town "seems kind of quiet."
Her class, "Basic Acting," will be offered Tuesdays this fall. She says she hopes students will take away, "Some fun and an understanding of how acting and drama can change a person's life."
The summer has been entirely too short and needs to be longer. This is the final summer edition of the Shipping News and when the fall semester starts up, we'll be busy again.
This last week saw the farewell of many of our graduating seniors --- including my longtime cohort and partner in gossip, Veronica Mars. Thanks for everything, V, and we wish you the best in your future.
There are several happy couples still wandering the island of Fandom. We still have Walter and Nadia out there, as well as Cole and Phoebe, Isabel and Greg, Jack and Sam ... and Cedric? We also have the unbelievable cuteness of Willow (Hi Willow!) and English Peter. I'm also told that Pip and Pippi have tried the dating thing. Yay!
In talking about the happy couples, we also have to talk about the break-ups...
Xander and Bridge... what? No, that can't be right. That's not allowed. We have glitter flags that say so. ... No, not permitted.
In talking about break-ups, we also have to mention the sad fact that it is time to wave goodbye to the Class of 2006. We all got some extra time with them thanks to summer camp, but they must be moving on.
So, to Anakin, Callisto, Chloe, Ivanova, Piper, Veronica and Xander: Thanks for everything and we're going to miss you. And V? Make sure that you and Archie take good care of each other.
That's it for the final summer chapter of the Fandom High Shipping News. I'll see you in the fall term --- and with a shiny new co-gossip.
