THE FANDOM HIGHTIMES: Volume 5, Fourth Edition

Dear Readers,
I'd like to take this opportunity to say "Welcome back!" to all of the alumni who returned for Homecoming weekend. As I try to decide what I want to do after I leave Fandom, it's nice to know that all of you are doing so well. It's odd that Fandom throws us so many strange things but the thought of leaving seems so scary. I have no idea what the future holds (which is ironic, since I'm from the future). Next Homecoming, I'll be happy to share what I've learned about life after graduation.
As usual, I look forward to hearing your comments.

The Tarot Journey for Beginners
by: Eleanor Robinson
The True Self is the meaning of the True Will:
know Thyself through Thy Way.
Calculate well the Formula of Thy Way.
Create freely; absorb joyously; divide intently;
consolidate completely.
Work thou, Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent,
in and for Eternity.*

In the robe of a magician, there stands a youthful figure, with a smile of confidence and shining eyes. Above his head is the mysterious sign of the Eternity, the sign of life, like an endless cord. About his waist is a serpent-cincture, the serpent appearing to devour its own tail. Both are familiar to most as a conventional symbol of eternity, but here it indicates more especially the eternity of attainment in the spirit.
In the Magician's right hand is a wand raised towards the skies, while the left hand is pointing to the earth. This dual sign is known in very high grades of the Instituted Mysteries; it shows the descent of grace, virtue and light, drawn from things above and derived to things below. The suggestion throughout is therefore the possession and communication of the Powers and Gifts of Spirit. In front of the Magician are the symbols of the four Tarot suits, signifying the elements of natural life, which lie like counters before the adept, and he adapts them as he wills.
In his superior abstractness he is eternal in relation to the phenomenal world. Potency and power are his attributes, because all and everything is imminent in this stage. Power abstract, undeveloped, and simple, but for that reason mightier than every detail or phenomenon, and the master of Nature. In this he represents he ultra-positive, the very superior, and the ultra-egotistical.
Mercury predominates with the Magician. Ever willing to communicate, he can fit in with the ambiance of the situation. The Magus takes on the energies of the cards around him, and broadcasts that energy to all and sundry. The Magus makes deals. He wangles things. He tricks people. He says one thing and means another. He is ever restless, circling close around the Sun. He brings down knowledge, communications and diktats, but is he reliable? Can we believe he is really being truthful, or is it ever more propaganda?
The Magician Card or Magus represents Mercurial knowledge, communication and magic. It may also imply messages, business transactions, the interference of learning or intelligence with the matter in hand. When the Magus is weak, expect communication problems, crossed lines, an inability to speak, or torrents of words spewing out that make no sense.
Skill, wisdom, diplomacy, cunning, deceit, theft, subtlety; sickness, pain, loss, disaster; self-confidence, will.
Reversed Card meanings
Physician, mental illness, disgrace, disquiet, unfortunate situation, anxiety, trouble, affliction.

Cooking Made Easy
By: Hoshi Sato
Last time, I shared with you a recipe for microwave cake. This time, I have a more traditional form of cake that still comes in a small size.
Easy Cupcake Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake pans with paper liners.
Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add shortening, milk, and vanilla. Beat for 1 minute on medium speed. Scrape side of bowl with a spatula.
Add eggs to the mixture. Beat for 1 minute on medium speed. Scrape bowl again. Beat on high speed for 1 minute 30 seconds until well mixed.
Spoon cupcake batter into paper liners until 1/2 to 2/3 full.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Cool 5 minutes in pans then remove and place on wire racks to cool completely.
Once cupcakes are completely cooled, frost with your favorite frosting recipe or decorate as you desire.
